TEXT: Ephesians 1:17-23
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
KEY VERSE:
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” – (Ephesians 1:17)
MESSAGE
Dirk Jan De Pree was an American furniture designer who doubled as a lay pastor. He understood, like Jacob and Moses, that to appreciate the Lord and enjoy His gift of life, man must measure his time here on earth in days. So, when he was asked how old he was, D. J. De Pree would answer with the number of days. He said, “ Jacob spoke of the days of the years of my life. And Moses pleads with God: “…teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Allowing this insight to guide him one day at a time, enabled De Pree to serve the Lord all his days on earth. He died in 1990 at 99.

As the year closes today, the Lord is reminding us from the text that it is the combination of divine wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God that would engage us industriously to see every day as the building blocks of every year. Years and seasons cannot be on their own without days.
Also, Read Bible Doctrine
When we begin to see our stay in the world as Jacob, Moses and contemporary saints did, we shall radically review our approach to serving God. Every day shall be like our last day. Each day, we would expect the Lord’s return. Such expectation would then spark unprecedented glow of holiness and evangelism in the believer. When we have this mindset, nobody in our community would escape hearing and receiving the gospel.

Cumulatively, the Lord has gifted us with thousands of hours all through the year. That is a lot of resources to help a Christian make a difference in a lifetime. How did we exploit them? Did we allow each hour to pass away without working for heaven? Did we occupy till He comes? Did we spare a thought for sinners, the friends of Christ? If we have failed heaven by wasting the days of the year only on pleasure and business, this day offers new opportunities to be penitent by spending it to win souls.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Lord, teach us to serve You day by day.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Revelation 21-22
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
