TOPIC: Praising God (DCLM Daily Manna 14 May 2023)

KEY VERSE: “Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation” (Psalm 111:1).

TEXT: Psalm 111:1-10 (KJV)

1 Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

2 The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4 He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.

8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

An evangelist once said, “When a true child of God prays without answers, he or she should switch over to singing praises to the King of glory. Genuine praises often move God to action”. Rather than lament behind the bars, Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to God. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake that shook the foundation of the prison, threw its doors open and loosed their bands (Acts 16:25,26).

The author of the psalm under consideration specifically praises God Almighty for His glory, grace, mercy, provision and works. He begins with “Praise ye the LORD”. Subsequently, he reiterates his commitment to giving thanks to the Lord. He cites the great works of the Lord as the rationale for praising Him with his whole heart. He mentions God’s grace and compassion towards him in times of trials and troubles.

He remembers how God provides meat “unto them that fear Him” and how He redeems His people from the hands of their enemies. He proclaims God’s goodness and uprightness, especially His unshaken commitment to fulfilling all His covenants.
The psalmist’s heart of praises reveals how believers can meaningfully lift up our Creator.

He praises the Lord with the totality of his heart without distraction and interruption on account of how He was gracious to him during troublous times as a fugitive. He also appreciates the Lord for keeping His covenant with Israel.
Like him, we must develop the healthy habit of praising God both in private and in public. Rendering songs of hallelujah from holy hearts elicits His intervention when we experience grave challenges.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Genuine praises speed up answers to prayers.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
