DCLM Higher Everyday 19 May 2024 — Becoming A Good Workman
Topic: Becoming A Good Workman
Text: 2 Timothy 2:15-18
15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Key Verse: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2: 15).
Message
The secret of a successful workman lies in the famous quote of former American President Abraham Lincoln, “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my axe.” There are a lot of youths in this generation who don’t study hard enough to ensure success in their areas of endeavours. Be different. Stand out as a smart hardworking youth and you will achieve a resounding success in life.
As a Christian youth, apply yourself to learning in school. Also, have a mentor in your chosen career line or a good role model. Peter and the other disciples learned at the feet of Jesus. Paul studied law through Gamaliel, and many contemporary ministers of God learned from older ministers. Friend, study hard in order to lay a sound foundation for your career and effective service for the Lord. Read today’s memory verse again and learn from Paul’s counsel to Timothy. Many youths are deceived into errors because they don’t have sound knowledge of the scriptures. Don’t be a victim.
Quote: Apply yourself to learning
Challenge: Study the scriptures.
Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to be a good workman, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
