DCLM Higher Everyday 5 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Whole Armour of God – 3

Topic: The Whole Armour of God – 3

Text: Ephesians 6:17-18

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Key Verse: “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”(Ephesians 6: 18).

Message

In our Bible text today, salvation, the ‘sword of the Spirit’ and prayer, are presented to us for the believers’ winning strategy. Actually, you cannot touch the armour of God without salvation. The armour is not for sinners. In a sense, salvation comes first. So, always maintain it. Then comes the “sword of the Spirit” which is God’s Word. The importance of the Word cannot be overemphasized. Rendered as the book of the law, it is a means to all-round success and prosperity (Joshua 1:8). Jesus Himself overcame Satan through the written Word.

Finally, we come to prayer. Prayer is an offensive resource for making all the other pieces of the armour effective. When saved youths  pray in righteousness with the Word of God in faith, Satan panics. What happened when the early Church prayed for Peter? Of course he was delivered from jail (Acts 12:1-11). We also praise God in prayer. We have learnt in this series that Satan and his evil forces are no match to the power of Almighty Jehovah. The whole armour is all you need.

Quote: The armour is not for sinners

Challenge: Pray without ceasing.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, help me retain my armour, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
