DCLM Daily Manna 6 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Lure Of Idolatrous Customs
TOPIC: The Lure Of Idolatrous Customs (DCLM Daily Manna 6 August 2024)
KEY VERSE: “For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do” (Deuteronomy 18:14).
TEXT: Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (KJV)
9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.
14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Vernon Luches once said, “If we get everything we want, we will soon want nothing that we get”. This statement recognises the tendency of the human heart to crave the wrong things that appear attractive or out of sheer curiosity. This disposition lies at the root of most wrong choices that people make, some of which have eternal consequences.
God was mindful of this tendency when He warned the Israelites against the abominable practices of the heathen inhabitants of Canaan. These practices include making their children pass through the fire, using divination, observing times and consulting enchanters, witches, charmers, familiar spirits or necromancers. But for the tendency to drift to the wrong end, it would seem unnecessary to give such specific instruction to people who have experienced pure worship and tested the grace and goodness of God. He expected them to be distinctly holy and a model of acceptable worship.

In recent times, there has been a resurgence of abominable and heathen practices, which now come in more appealing gabs. It comes in different shades of cultic involvements, syncretism, modern astrology and divergent religious indulgences. Unfortunately, some people who profess to be Christians have an appetite for these modern heathenisms and doctrines of the devil. But none can serve two masters at the same time.
God hates all forms of idolatrous worship. He deserves to be served exclusively in spirit and truth. To do otherwise is to subscribe to the worship of the devil. As believers, we must not yield to the lure of heathenism by personal involvement or the use of our God-given resources to support or promote abominable activities, as this will make us incur His wrath.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Satan does not care what you worship as long as it is not God, in spirit and truth.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
