DCLM Sincere Milk  22 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiNehemiah

Topic: Nehemiah

Text:Nehemiah 1:1-6

1The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

2That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

3And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

4And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

5And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

6Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.

Key Verse: “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,” Nehemiah 1:4

Message

Nehemiah was in a strange land serving in the King’s palace and obviously enjoying himself there. One day, be heard sad news about what was happening in Jerusalem the city of God. The news broke him down seriously and he had to deal with it. Nehemiah did not say that it wasn’t his business that Jerusalem wall was broken down since he was in the palace. He was concerned about his people and the glory of God. Then he took steps to seek solution from God.

Many children today are not concerned about the challenges of others. They are not touched by the suffering of people because they are not the ones suffering. This is not a good attitude, even Jesus is touched by the feelings of our infirmities, we ought to be like Him. The Bible commands us to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. As such, we should be able to relate with the challenges of others and join them in prayers when we can. This is what will make God happy with us.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, give me the heart that cares for others.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
