DCLM Higher Everyday 21 September 2024 — A Supplicant For Saints
DCLM Higher Everyday 21 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Supplicant For Saints
Topic: A Supplicant For Saints
Text: Colossians 4:7-13
7All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
9With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
10Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)
11And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
12Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
13For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
Key Verse: “Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God” (Colossians 4:12).
Message
A supplicant is someone who makes petition before God on behalf of another. Epaphras is one of the supplicants in the New Testament. Such a Christian is concerned about others who need God’s intervention. As a child of God, we can follow the “GOM” pattern in our prayer – (God, Others, Myself). Prayer is the best gift we can give to fellow believers. The love of Christ constrains us to pray for those who are sick, suffering, afflicted, the backslider, church leaders and the rulers in our nation. Like Epaphras, believers must pray for the new converts, revivals, programmes and projects of the Church. We are to pray for our institutions, teachers, classmates, neighbours, parents, friends and foes.
Through intercession, we can achieve much for God. Empathy will enable us to pray effectively for others. Let us bother about others. The Bible commands that you should “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Bring solution to other believers’ problems through your supplication. God’s love constrains us to pray for other saints like Epaphras did.
Quote: Let us bother about others
Challenge: In empathy, supplicate for others.
Prayer for today: Pour upon me, oh God, the spirit of supplication.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
