DCLM Sincere Milk 4 October 2024 — Honour For The Elders

DCLM Sincere Milk  4 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiHonour For The Elders

Topic: Honour For The Elders

Text:Lamentation 5:12-16

12Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.

13They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.

14The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.

15The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!

Key Verse: “Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.” Lamentations 5:12

Message

People cannot enjoy the blessings of God where they choose to do evil, not minding the warnings from God. The peace of God is for those who fear God and love to do His will. The condition of Israel was very bad at a particular time. There were no joy and peace in the nation. Children, adults, the king and princes all suffered. The reason for this terrible and painful period is given in the final part of verse 16 of our Bible passage, “that we have sinned!” But where people realize their sins, repent and turn to God and now live a righteous life, they are expected to show godly fruits. And one of these fruits is honour or respect for the elders.

Elders are those who are older than us in age or higher in position. Our elders are our rulers, our teachers and pastors. God commands us to honour them. You are to greet them, obey them, respect them, pray for them, and encourage them by living a godly and honest life. You can prayerfully start to do that as from today in church, school and community. God will bless you as you obey His word.

Prayer for today: God, please help me to respect the elderly and those that are placed above me.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
