DCLM Sincere Milk  13 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiPersecuted

Topic: Persecuted

Text: Matthew 5:10-12

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Key Verse: “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:10

Message

We will obey God even if it brings suffering. The pain in this world is just for a short time. In hell, pain lasts forever.” These words more likely describe Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego’s thoughts when they had to choose between obeying God, which comes with suffering some pain in this world and enjoying pleasures in heaven forever, and disobeying God in order to obey Nebuchadnezzar.

Every child of God faces persecution (discomfort, pain, and suffering as a result of obeying and living in a way that pleases God). It should not be regarded as unusual. Suffering for the sake of righteousness is a blessing. It is part of the package Jesus promised His friends (Mark 10:30). Do not let the lies told about you or the funny names people call you cause you to stop dressing in a godly way or obeying God’s word. Tell the truth even if it means getting punished. God loves you and expects you to love Him above all else, even if it causes you discomfort and pain.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, help me to endure any suffering that comes with obeying and living for You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
