DCLM Higher Everyday 19 October 2024 — Do Not Deceive
DCLM Higher Everyday 19 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Do Not Deceive
Topic: Do Not Deceive
Text: Psalm 101:6-8
6Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
8I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.
Key Verse: “He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight” (Psalm 101:7).
Message
Deception or falsehood is an act or statement that misleads, hides the truth, or promotes a belief, concept, or idea that is not true. Deception has negative consequences on the deceiver and the deceived. It was Abraham Lincoln who said, “We may deceive all the people sometimes: we may deceive some of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time, and not God at any time.” Are you a deceiver?

Deception is the daily practice of sinners and it happens in schools, offices, at home, and among friends and foes. People tell lies while giving reports or answering questions. God prohibits falsehood and will judge all liars. Remember Ananias and Sapphira! (Acts 5:1-11). No situation in life justifies lying. In plain terms, deception is a sin and God punishes it. Lying is a consequence of the fallen nature of man in the Garden of Eden. The cure is genuine repentance, faith in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, and proper restitution. Efforts outside this provision of the cross will lead to more lies, guilt and damnation.
Quote: Deception is a sin
Challenge: No profession or circumstance justifies lying.
Prayer for today: Lord, deliver me from a lying tongue, in Jesus’ name,
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
