DCLM Higher Everyday 1 November 2024 — Meet The Messiah
DCLM Higher Everyday 1 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Meet The Messiah
Topic: Meet The Messiah
Text: John 1:26-36
26John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
Key Verse: “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
Message
We are introduced to John the Baptists’ testimony of Jesus Christ in our study today. He proclaimed Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He was specific that Jesus is the man preferred before him. John’s example is a powerful one for all Christians, especially Christian youths and leaders. As followers of Christ, our task is similar to his role as a forerunner; to shift attention away from ourselves, and point people to Christ! Let us never forget, no matter how honoured we may be; we are not the Messiah!

Most importantly, it is good to proclaim Him among the heathen and among those that hear us. John proclaimed Jesus and concealed his own identity. We must not put ourselves above the message of the gospel of Christ as we preach Him to others in our schools or communities. Our focus and primary goal should be to lift Jesus high and Him alone. This should reflect in our lifestyle, comportment, language, and devotion among our friends.
Quote: We are not the Messiah
Challenge: Introduce Jesus to others.
Prayer for today: Help me Lord, to be faithful in proclaiming you.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
