DCLM Higher Everyday 9 December 2024 — Danger of Giving Excuses
DCLM Sincere Milk 9 December 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Danger of Giving Excuses
Topic: Danger of Giving Excuses
Text: Psalm 51:1-5
1(To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Key Verse: “For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.” Psalm 51:3
Message
Fanny always had an excuse and a reason for not doing his homework on time. Unknown to him, he had developed the habit of always giving excuses. An excuse is reason or explanation given to justify a fault or offence. Those in this habit have and give reasons for doing something they shouldn’t do, or for not doing something they should do.

Why have you not sincerely repented of your sins? What is your excuse for disobeying God’s word? There is no excuse that anyone can give for rejecting salvation or disobeying God’s word that can ever make sense. During the time of Noah, many people were judged and destroyed despite the provision of salvation that God made. Maybe they had excuses to give for rejecting the Ark of salvation but unfortunately, such excuses would never count. Just like David did in our Bible passage, ask God for forgiveness, holy heart and grace to always obey Him every day.
Prayer for today: Dear God, I surrender my heart to You. Come in and help me to always obey Your word.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
