DCLM Sincere Milk 23 December 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Washed Clean
Topic: Washed Clean
Text: John 13:4-10
4He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
Key Verse: “Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.” John 13:8
Message
In Bible times, the roads were often untarred and therefore dusty all the time. Because of the roads, people’s feet were caked with mud and dirt. Washing those feet was one of the dirtiest job around, it was a servant’s job. However, at the last supper, Jesus became the servant-leader. He washed His followers’ feet, the dirtiest part of their bodies. Now, He is ready to wash the dirtiest part of you if you let Him. Sin makes your heart even dirtier than those disciples’ feet. Jesus will wash away that dirt, but only if you confess and accept that you are dirty. Tell Him about that bad thought, that bad word, and that disobedience to His word.

If you pretend your heart is clean, Jesus cannot wash you. You will never be clean until you first tell Him you are dirty. But if you tell Jesus that you need Him to wash you, He will do it with His blood and you will become whiter than snow.

Prayer for today: Lord, wash me and make me clean.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
