DCLM Higher Everyday 7 February 2024 — Godliness With Contentment

DCLM Higher Everyday 7 February 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiGodliness With Contentment

Topic: Godliness With Contentment

Text: 2 Samuel 6:1-8

1Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.

3And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.

4And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.

5And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

6And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

7And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

8And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.

Key Verse: “But godliness with contentment is great gain”(1 Timothy 6:6).

Message

Jesus is committed to caring for His children as shown in the pages of the Scriptures. In His discretion, He gives us individually, the necessary things, according to our needs. Unfortunately, we often allow our wants to prevail over contentment, which is the root cause of envy, jealousy and covetousness. Believers are charged to be satisfied with what God has given them even as they pray for more. Lack of contentment can make a believer to lose the grace of God.

After many conquests Alexander the Great fell ill. On his sick bed, he said, “I will depart from this world soon, I have three wishes, please carry them out without fail.” “I want the world to know the three lessons I have just learnt,” He stated. Describing his second wish, the king said: “I spent all my life earning riches but cannot take anything with me. Let people know that wealth is nothing but dust.” Thirdly, he said, “I wish people to know that I came empty handed into this world and I will go empty-handed.” Beloved, be godly and contented.

Quote: Believers are charged to be satisfied.

Challenge: Genuine salvation brings contentment.

Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to be satisfied with what I have.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
