DCLM Higher Everyday 23 February 2025 — Demand of the decalogue- part1
DCLM Higher Everyday 23 February 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Demand of the decalogue- part1
Topic: Demand of the decalogue- part1
Text: Exodus 20:1-11
1And God spake all these words, saying,
3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Key Verse: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mark 12:30).
Message
The Decalogue refers to the Ten Commandments that Moses received from God on Mount Sinai as operating instructions for the children of Israel. God introduced Himself to them as their God who delivered them from Egypt, giving them the instructions on how to obey Him and to keep them safe on earth.

Today’s Bible text deals with the first four commandments on the first table that express man’s duties to God. First, God’s children should not have any other gods beside God. This is because nobody or nothing else is higher than God. God should be the most important one in our lives. Two, we should not worship any creature or anything we make except God who is the creator of all things. Third, we are to honour God’s name by not using His holy name carelessly or without reverence. The fourth is to rest and worship God on God’s holy day. Which of these commands are you breaking? The truly transformed sons and daughters of Christ will find it pleasant and joyous to obey God’s commandments for His love and manifold blessings.
Quote: Nobody or nothing else is higher than God.
Challenge: In what ways are you disobeying God?
Prayer for today: Help me, oh God to obey Your word.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
