12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
14Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15Thou shalt not steal.
16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Key Verse: “And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:31).
Message
Today, we conclude our study on the Decalogue. The six commandments on the second table relate to our duties to other people in the society. Obedience to them will help us to live peacefully with other people. Hence Matthew Henry said, “The laying up of God’s oracles in our hearts will be of excellent use to us in all our conduct.”

The fifth commandment requires children to obey and honour their parents. Parents give directions to children. Obedience to this law makes them live long. The sixth prohibits murder including suicide and abortion. Life is given by God and nobody can replace it. The seventh forbids all forms of sexual immorality and every kind of behaviour that promotes lust such as pornography. The eighth is against stealing, pilfering or robbing. The ninth forbids being a false witness, telling lies and deceiving other people. The tenth is against covetousness, being not satisfied with what you have and desiring to possess what belongs to others. The diverse problems in our society today result from man’s disobedience to these commandments. Repent if you are guilty of any.
Quote: Our duties to other people
Challenge: Repent if you have broken any of the laws.
Prayer for today: Make me love others as myself, Oh Lord!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
