DCLM Higher Everyday 6 May 2025 — Be Valiant And Vigilant

DCLM Higher Everyday 6 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Savour The Lord’s Supper

Topic: Be Valiant And Vigilant

Text: 1 Peter 5:8-11

8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Key Verse: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1Peter 5:8).

Message

In the Old Testament, the word ‘valiant’ was translated as “power” or “might.” It symbolizes courage and men of war. It also describes believers as very bravely determined; especially when things are difficult or the situation gives no cause for hope. Bryant McGill said, “A valiant mind is the greatest weapon against error.” Saints are not only to be fearless and resolute but also to be vigilant against error, temptations and anything that can endanger their lives and ministries.

Remember Samson? He was valiant but not vigilant concerning women and fell woefully (Judges 14:5-616:1-716-21). Peter enjoins us: “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” Watch out for the devil walking about, seeking to steal your salvation and devour your eternal hope of glory.  Be steadfast in faith by resisting the devil. Today, some are departing from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. Therefore, watch and pray so that the ‘roaring lion’ does not make you another victim.

Quote: He was valiant but not vigilant

Challenge: Be fearless and resolute, do not be a victim

Prayer for today: Lord, give me the grace to be vigilant.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
