DCLM Higher Everyday 23 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Marvels Of Mentorship

Topic: Marvels Of Mentorship

Text: 1 Titus 1:1-5

1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

Key Verse: “To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee” (I Titus 1:4-5).

Message

Paul Borthwick said, “Spiritual health demands a friend who will walk alongside us, speak truth to us (even when it hurts), and keep us honest in our relationship with God and with other people.” This is a great challenge to Christian students who are not mentoring the young converts in the school fellowships. By this they break the long chain of mentorship from Christ to the Apostles, to the fathers of faith, to the contemporary notable God’s generals, and then to them.

Mentoring is about emptying yourself into someone’s life. It is synonymous to modelling. The mentor must be a good model to be able to inject positive changes into the mentees. This involves changing the spiritual view of your mentee and leading him to the realm where he can appreciate the things of God more perfectly. The mentor must have the right understanding of the scriptures since the Bible remains the manual of any fruitful Christian mentorship. Paul was convinced that Titus could function in full capacity in his absence. Beloved, grow also, and labour to the glory of God.

Quote: The mentor must have the right understanding

Challenge: Stop breaking the chain of mentorship – play your part!

Prayer for today: Father, help me to help others grow in the faith, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
