DCLM Sincere Milk 25 June 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Miracle Of Mercy

Topic: Miracle Of Mercy

Text — Luke 22:48-51

48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

49When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

50And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

51And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

Key Verse: “And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.” Luke 22:51

Message

Have you ever received a gift from our heavenly Father that perfectly met your needs that you did not ask for or deserve? This is what Malchus, the servant of the high priest received when he went to arrest Jesus Christ. In the middle of one of the most important moments of Jesus’ ministry, when the plan of salvation for the whole world was to be carried out, the Saviour took the time to extend mercy to Malchus by replacing the ear that was cut off by Peter.

What can we learn from the miracle of mercy that Malchus received when he was healed by Christ Whom he had been sent to arrest?
We learn that (i) Jesus is the only compassionate and merciful Saviour Who can forgive and take care of everyone including an enemy. (ii) The miracle of mercy can extend to sinner who naturally does not deserve mercy from Christ. We also learn that Peter acted without being thoughtful of the consequence, to him, he was defending his master. We do not need to fight our enemies, rather we are to pray for them, show them love and do good to them as much as we can.

Prayer for today: May the miracle of mercy locate every sinner and bring them to salvation.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
