DCLM Higher Everyday 28 June 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Special Levitical Services

Topic: Special Levitical Services

Text: Numbers 1:50-54

50But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

52And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

53But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.

54And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.

Key Verse: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

Message

The Levites who were from the tribe of Levi were assistants to the priest. They were tabernacle workers. They helped in the carriage of the tabernacle and were responsible for its movements and set-up. Their tents on every side were between that of the congregation and the tabernacle, shielding Israel from the wrath that could be occasioned through any form of carelessness. Their service was voluntary, and they derived their remuneration through provisions for the sanctuary service. Therefore, they willingly, humbly and sacrificially cared for the sanctuary and assisted the priests, as they were content with their God-given roles.

Christian youths are not expected to offer less love and loyalty to God and His service, His demand doesn’t change with the passage of time. We are under a better covenant than the Old Testament believers and enjoy better promises. We must never consider any service in the kingdom as ordinary but count ourselves privileged to serve the king of kings. Only saints can offer acceptable service. What service are you render to God in His sanctuary?

Quote: Only saints can offer acceptable service

Challenge: No ordinary service in the house of God.

Prayer for today: God, give me grace to serve you cheerfully and sacrificially.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
