DCLM Sincere Milk 7 July 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Love Without Rebuke

Topic: Love Without Rebuke

Text — 1 Samuel 3:11-18

11And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

14And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

15And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

16Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

17And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

18And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

Key Verse: “For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.” 1 Samuel 3:13

Message

It is often said that when two brothers come out of a meeting room smiling and chuckling they have not spoken the truth to each other. The truth is hard and will often turn you from the wrong path.

Sue attends a school owned by his mother’s friend. He is a very playful and stubborn boy, so the mom’s friend placed him in a special class where he could be properly monitored. He was very uncomfortable with this development and he cooked up a story that made the mother to withdraw him and he was taken to another school. In the new school, he played as he wanted and soon joined the group of the big boys in the school. Nobody called him to order nor did his parent check how he was doing. Soon he was expelled from school as he could not pass promotion examinations thrice.

The sons of Eli were left to themselves; no correction, no counselling, no rebuke and so they and their father died the same day. This was a tragedy. Do you feel sad and withdrawn when your parents or teachers correct you? It is only someone that loves you that corrects you so you don’t end up in a bad way.

Prayer for today: Help me Lord, to appreciate those who correct me and take heed to their instructions.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
