Today’s passage is often referred to as the Lord’s Prayer. The Lord gave us as a prayer model to follow and not just a piece to be parroted. Jesus bid us to “pray after this manner.”

We pray directly to God and not to any saint or angel. Prayer begins with praising God, giving glory to His name. We seek first the kingdom of God, pray for the growth of the kingdom and its establishment in the hearts of men. We pray to do God’s will and that our lives may be pleasing in His sight. Jesus asks us to pray for daily sustenance. The prayer teaches us the need to forgive others because we also desire mercy from God. Each day has its portion of evil, so we daily pray for deliverance from any evil occurrences, corrupting influences in the society, and temptations from the adversary, the devil. In conclusion, we end our prayers with praise to God in confidence of answers to our prayers. The Lord has taught us to pray. Pray always so that you will not become a prey.
Quote: Pray for daily sustenance
Challenge: Follow the prayer plan outlined by the Lord.
Prayer for today: Father, give me more grace to be prayerful.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
