Topic: Keep Off The Hot Tempered

Text: Proverbs 22 : 24-27

24Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Key Verse

“Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go” (Proverbs 22:24).

Message

The face is red and flushed, the veins on the neck and temple are pulsating, the fist and jaw are clenched and the lips are quivering. A volcano is about to erupt. He may become aggressive, abusive or assertive. He may throw things, destroy things or smash things. That paints the picture of a person in a rage, about to unleash his anger verbally or physically.

Anger is one of the negative emotions of man. It is a strong feeling of displeasure and usually of opposition toward someone or something. It’s characterized by feelings of annoyance, displeasure, and antagonism. When an individual is easily-provoked or finds it difficult to control his anger, then he is considered, quick, short or hot-tempered. A hot-tempered individual is unpredictable and can act irrationally. He poses a real danger to both himself and to others. Hot temper can lead to abusive and aggressive behaviours. It can lead to social isolation. It can lead to health and mental issues. It creates a toxic environment and can even be contagious. No wonder the Bible counsels the wise to keep off the hot-tempered!

Quote: A hot-tempered person is unpredictable

Challenge: Anger creates a toxic environment.

Prayer for today: Lord, give me mastery over my temper.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
