DCLM Higher Everyday 19 August 2025 — In Tough Times, Still Hold On
DCLM Higher Everyday 19 August 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — In Tough Times, Still Hold On
Topic: In Tough Times, Still Hold On
Text: Romans 4:16-22
16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Key Verse: “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4: 20).
Message
If you’ve been listening to the news lately, it might be enough to cause sleepless nights as you worry about the alarming rate of death, sickness, disease, kidnappings, and hardship in many parts of the world. Unfortunately, solutions to these challenges seem not to be in sight. God’s message to you is to just “hold on!” because God is still on the throne.

Abraham had a tough time in holding on when at the age of a hundred he was still hoping and trusting God for a child. Despite all that looked bleak, he was fully persuaded that God cannot lie. God never promised that life would be without difficult times, but we are sure of His abiding presence. There is always a reason for our tough time – He wants us to grow stronger in holding on to His promises and to see the testimonies beyond the tough times. When you face tough times, just believe God’s truths and promises, and turn to the Scripture for inspiration and encouragement! God is our Father if you are born again. There is no impossibility with Him.
Quote: There is no impossibility with Him
Challenge: Have Faith in God and let not your heart be troubled.
Prayer for today: Lord, hold my hands and help me to trust you more.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
