DCLM Higher Everyday 23 August 2025 — Courage To Stand For God

DCLM Higher Everyday 23 August 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Courage To Stand For God

Topic: Courage To Stand For God

Text: Daniel 1:8-11

8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

10And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

11Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

Key Verse: “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

Message

To be courageous is to be brave, daring in the face of difficulty and attempting to do new things. Daniel in our text was brave to have refused the influence of the worldly and idolatrous lifestyle while in school in Babylon. He preferred to yield his body, soul and spirit to the Almighty God. He learnt through the help of the God of Israel that the delicacies being served and presented at the Babylonian Palace had idolatrous contamination. He acted as a Nazarite, wholly separated unto God and would not partake in the idolatrous food or drink.

Daniel had conviction and would not live a spurious spiritual life. Many youths find it difficult to be different in their schools and communities. They freely mix with the multitudes and trade off the investments of God in their lives in exchange of sinful pleasures. God is looking for Christian youths who will bear the torchlight of holiness, preach the gospel, adorn the robe of righteousness, and possess the grace of God to radiate the life of God for all to follow.

Quote: Radiate the life of God

Challenge: What do you stand for?

Prayer for today: Help me Lord, to be bold and brave to stand for you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
