DCLM Higher Everyday 4 September 2025 — Draw Out The Drowning

DCLM Higher Everyday 4 September 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Draw Out The Drowning

Topic: Draw Out The Drowning

Text: Galatians 6:1-3

1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

2Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

3For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Key Verse: “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins” (James 5:19,20).

Message

On August 3, 1911, Joseph Flammer and Joseph B. Pulitz saved the lives of five people who were drowning in the waters of Long Island Sound, New York. They saw the swimmers struggling against the strong currents. Quickly, they dived into the water and brought them to safety. From this story, we can see that the two Josephs were very observant and did not turn a “blind eye’’ to what they saw. They neither rejoiced in the calamity of those five nor got out their phones to video them, but they helped to rescue them.

The Lord has charged us to be our brother’s keeper and rescue our fellow brethren who might have been taken in a fault, that is, slipped into sin, or backsliding. We must be very observant to prevent the devil from snatching our brethren to hell. We are not to rejoice over such but to pray for them, visit them, and see how to bring them back to the Lord. We must avoid being arrogant and help such in the spirit of meekness.

Quote: We are not to rejoice over such

Challenge: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to be my brother’s keeper.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
