Topic: Stand Upright

Text: Luke 13:10-17

10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

11And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

14And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

15The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

17And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Key Verse: “And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” Luke 13:13

Message

She didn’t have a name. She was simply known as “the cripple, the bent woman”. For eighteen long years, she was getting worse and worse, so disabled by her bent back that she couldn’t stand up straight and could hardly walk. She was what we call “a person living with disability”.

One glorious day, Jesus met her and had compassion on her. He spoke the word and laid hands on her, then she stood upright and glorified God for the wonderful things He had done for her. She didn’t claim credit for her healing as some people do today. We should learn to always give thanks to God at all times. Because of Jesus, the woman was set free and now, finally, it was Satan who was bound. Jesus empowered the woman to stand up straight, all because He recognized her need, and granted her complete wholeness and healing.

Today Jesus says to you “Stand up straight! You are a child of God! You are set free from all yokes and bondage! You are empowered to enjoy abundant life, to live a life of praise and service to God.”

Prayer for today: Lord, I receive my healing as I exercise my faith in You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
