DCLM Higher Everyday 13 September 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Duties Have Deadline
Topic: Duties Have Deadline
Text: John 9:1-7
1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Key Verse: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).
Message
We can recall the old rhyme by the Cameroonian, Nyango Melissa that says, “Tick, says the clock, tick, tick; What you have to do, do quick!” This rhyme teaches the importance of being timely in carrying out tasks. From our memory verse, Christ emphasizes the link between work and time. There is a timeframe in which work must be done for it to be meaningful. Beyond the given timeframe or deadline, work becomes irrelevant and loses its impact. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

It is crucial for every youth to understand the importance of completing tasks like school assignments, chores, errands, projects and so on in time. Doing things within designated timeframe is vital because it can boost your chances of doing them correctly and get rewarded accordingly. The need for meeting deadline is pivotal to students’ academic success as those who fail to meet deadlines are often punished for their carelessness. May God help you to shun laziness, procrastination and all forms of distractions.

Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to be time conscious, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
