DCLM Higher Everyday 14 September 2025 — Be Diligent

DCLM Higher Everyday 14 September 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Be Diligent

Topic: Be Diligent

Text: Proverbs. 10:1-15

1The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

8The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

9He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

Key Verse: “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich” (Proverbs. 10:4).

Message

Diligence means carefulness and persistent effort in doing something. Verse 5 of our text adds another component to diligence – timeliness. We can thus say that diligence entails careful and persistent effort and work done at the right time. A diligent youth does the right work right when the right work needs to be done.

Being successful in your studies, career and in life generally, requires more than talent. Many youths rely so much on their talents, relegating hard work and persistence to the background. Diligent youths set their eyes on their goals and put in all efforts to reach them. Laziness, shortcuts, idleness, complacency, or giving up is not in their dictionary. They take responsibility and conscientiously follow through any task given to them. God expects youths to be diligent in school, church or office. You cannot achieve success overnight; you have to diligently work your way up to the top in spite of life’s challenges. Diligence brings promotion and prosperity and turns your dreams to reality. Remember to commit your ways into God’s hand as diligence without God will fail you.

Quote: God expects youths to be diligent

Challenge: Diligently work your way to the top.

Prayer for today: Dear God, help me to be diligent in Jesus name. Amen.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
