Topic: Mount Sinai – Face to Face with God

Test: Exodus 19:16-20

16And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

17And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

20And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

KEY VERSE: “And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.” Exodus 19:17

Message

In the third month of their journey through the desert, the Israelites set up camp at the foot of mount Sinai while Moses went up the mountain to meet with God. On the day that the Lord said He would come, there was thunder and lightning on the mountain, and a loud trumpet was heard. The whole mountain was covered with smoke.

God spoke to Moses and told him to come up and meet with Him. So, Moses went up and disappeared in the thick smoke. God is so big that the whole mountain was covered with His glory. The people were not allowed to come near the mountain. If they even put a foot across the line that Moses had marked off, they would die. Everyone had to get ready to meet God by doing things that please Him. When we go to church to meet with God, it can also be an awesome experience for us if we prepare our hearts properly. If we are casual about meeting with God and there is sin in our hearts, we cannot get near to Him to see His greatness.

Jesus’ death and resurrection have opened the way for us to come face to face with God. All a sinner needs to do is to sincerely repent, ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Jesus, then accept Jesus as his personal Saviour and Lord.

PRAYER: Lord, I want to be nearer to You every day of my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
