DCLM Higher Everyday 7 October 2025 — Commitment To God’s Word
DCLM Higher Everyday 7 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Commitment To God’s Word
Topic: Commitment To God’s Word
Text: Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Key Verse: “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart” (Deuteronomy 6:6).
Message
“The scriptures were given not to increase our knowledge, but to change our lives, wrote D. L. Moody.” The Word of God is as important as the air we breathe. It is so indispensable that without it a Christian cannot make heaven. We are saved by it, sanctified by it, nurtured to maturity by it, delivered from sickness and Satan by it, and finally, our deeds and works in the world would be judged by it. In our text, Moses made it clear to the Children of Israel the commitment God demands to His word. So important it is that they must (i) memorize and keep it in the heart; (ii) teach and admonish their generations to observe and obey it; and (iii) inscribe it on the doorposts and windows of their houses as a reminder.

However, today God’s word is written in our hearts for us to obey (Hebrews 8:10). However, without Salvation it’s difficult to obey the word of God, not to talk of being committed to it. Today, God is calling you to a life of commitment. Heed the call!
Quote: Memorize and keep it in the heart
Challenge: Speak the word of God to a soul today.
Prayer for today: Lord, I am ready to study, memorize and obey your word.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
