Topic: Gladden Your Parent’s Hearts
Text: Proverbs 23:22-26
22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Key Verse: “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him” (Proverbs 23:24).
Message
In today’s world, many children are sources of grief and disappointment to their parents because of their deviant attitudes, disobedience, disrespect, and weird lifestyles. Every parent wishes that the attitude, lifestyle and accomplishments of their children bring deep joy and satisfaction to their hearts. Our parents have expended so much on us from infancy till date and we should feel a deep sense of indebtedness to them by showing them love, giving them due honour and obeying their godly counsels. Parents hold these acts in high esteem as something that makes life worth living and it contributes to their joy and their feeling of deep satisfaction.

Youths are admonished to heed the divine command: “Honour your father and mother…” (Ephesians 6:2). The Scripture is replete with youths who gladdened the hearts of their parents or guardians like Samuel, Joseph, and Esther, just to mention but a few. The blessings of gladdening the hearts of our parents are unquantifiable. Wisdom demands that as youths we gladden the hearts of our parents or guardians. Do you gladden the hearts of your parents?
Quote: Do you gladden the hearts of you parents?
Challenge: A wise child brings honour to his parents.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me grace to gladden the hearts of my parents.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
