Topic: Serving With Excellence

Text: Romans 12:10-18

10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Key Verse: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11

Message

Excellence means to score hundred percent (100%) in all areas of life. The dictionary defines excellence as a state or quality of being superior or exceptionally good. Other words used to explain what excellence is include distinction, fitness, goodness, greatness, merit, perfection, pre-eminence, purity, supremacy, virtue and worth. God created us with a need to work. One of the first things He told Adam was that he should look after the garden and work in it. Hard work honours the Lord; and that means, whatever task you do, when you do it to the best of your ability, you are pleasing the Lord. And when the task is completed, you will also feel good about a job well done.

It is good to work and work hard; but it is more profitable and acceptable to God to serve with excellence.
(i) In serving the Lordstrive to give Him quality service. Be devoted in praying, singing, worshipping, reading God’s word, meditating on it and obeying it. Above all, live a holy life.
(ii) In serving others- show love to your neighbours, the weak and encourage them. Pray for the sick and the discouraged.
(iii) In serving in the family- honour your parents, live at peace with other members of the family.

Do your own part of the house chores and do it well. Pray for all members. An excellent service in these areas will open way for you to do excellently well in your academics too.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
