DCLM Higher Everyday 5 November 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Murmuring Multitudes
Topic: Murmuring Multitudes
Text: 1 Corinthians 10:5-12
5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Key Verse: “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1Corinthians 10:11).
Message
The term “Murmuring Multitudes” reflects on the cautionary tale of the Israelites in the wilderness, as described in 1 Corinthians 10:5-12. The repetitive grumblings of the Israelites serve as a warning against discontentment and ingratitude. Despite witnessing miracles, they fell into a pattern of complaining, leading to grave consequences in their lives. This narrative urges reflection on the attitudes of youths today towards life’s challenges. The passage highlights the need to avoid the pitfalls of murmuring, emphasizing the importance of maintaining faith, gratitude, and patience during difficult times. By doing so, the youths can steer clear of the destructive cycle of negativity that plagued the Israelites.

Quote: Youths can navigate challenges
Challenge: Be strong in the Lord.
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, give me the right disposition in challenges.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
