DCLM Higher Everyday 24 November 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sad Inaction Of Sluggards
Topic: Sad Inaction Of Sluggards
Text: Proverbs 20:1-5
1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Key Verse: “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing” (Proverbs 20:4).
Message
The word “sluggard” is defined by Merriam-Webster as a “habitually lazy person.” A sluggard is a lazy, sleepy, slow-moving person. He/she is indifferent to the demands of the future, always having excuse for leaving things undone. The sluggard may desire to grow spiritually and work for God, but the discipline of regular personal Bible study, prayers, church commitment, and consistent Christian living are just too much for him to bear.

You need to be committed to hard work, prayer and to pleasing God in all things, and surely, He will supply you the grace to overcome laziness and procrastination. Dear friend, you will excel.
Quote: Sluggards don’t excel
Challenge: Your life can change for the better.
Prayer for today: Lord, I renounce indolence, make me productive, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
