DCLM Higher Everyday 5 December 2025 — Be Not Idle- Work!
DCLM Higher Everyday 5 December 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Be Not Idle- Work!
Topic: Be Not Idle- Work!
Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15
6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
8Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
14And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
15Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
Memory Verse: “By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through” (Ecclesiastes 10:18).
Message
The popular axiom “An idle heart is the devil’s workshop” is very true. From the Garden of Eden, God gave man work to do. Man was to trim the garden. (Gen 1:15). God worked for six days to create the heaven and the earth, man inclusive. Jesus Christ our Lord said “I must work the work of him that sent me”. God does not tolerate laziness and idleness. He that does not work, ought not to eat is a command in the Scriptures. We must be industrious like our Creator. Idleness refers to a state of being lazy or inactive.

The idle youth will always live in failure. As a Christian youth, you have full strength which God has given you to utilize for His glory, your personal benefit and that of humanity at large. What are you adding to your life, family, church, school, community and nation? Do not refrain from doing something to support your family. Learn to do something with your hands in the school, church and community. Plan your time table and study to excel.
QUOTE: Learn to do something with your hands.
PRAYER: O God, deliver me from idleness, in Jesus’ name.
CHALLENGE: Idleness is a killer of life and destiny.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
