Text: Genesis 21:14-19
14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
15And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
16And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
17And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
Key Verse: “And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.” Genesis 21:17
Message
A woman who was a Christian missionary was sent to work in a remote village in west Africa. In the course of her work, she established an orphanage and a cottage hospital. One day, a baby that has just been born was brought to the hospital and an incubator was needed to keep the baby alive. Sadly, there was no incubator in the hospital. The missionary then called the children in the orphanage to pray. The children with the missionary prayed to God making some urgent requests. Not long after their prayers, a parcel arrived from the home mission abroad through the postoffice agent. When they unwrapped the parcel, the first item that popped up was a brand-new incubator. God hears and answers prayers.

Our Bible passage shows the situation of Hagar and her young child. Instead of praying, she cast the child under a tree, but the child did not keep quiet. He cried and God heard his cry and provided water and sustenance for him and his mother. You too can pray for your needs and that of your family. Believe that God hears and answers prayers.

Prayer for today: Lord, hear my prayers and bless me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
