DCLM Higher Everyday 24 January 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sons Of A Perfect Father

Topic: Sons Of A Perfect Father

Text: Matthew 5:3-12, 48

3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Key Verse: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).

Message

Children usually want to be always associated with their parents. They want people to know whom their parents are. The desire to be associated with parents by children reflects their efforts to maintain family ideals handed down to them.  On the other hand, parents would naturally want their children to resemble them. The resemblance may be physical or in behaviour. So also, our heavenly father desires that we radiate His image anywhere and everywhere we find ourselves. God is a righteous God. Therefore, He wants His children to be righteous.

Our memory verse clearly presents the desire of God for all His children by instructing every boy and girl to “be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Perfection of the heart makes us to reflect the image of God and shine as light in this dark world. To be like Jesus commences from having a genuine experience of salvation. God demands perfection from us. He will not demand from us what He knows we cannot do.

Quote: God demands perfection from us

Challenge: Perfection of the heart is possible.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, give me the grace to be a living image of You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
