DCLM Higher Everyday 27 January 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Your True Identity In Christ
Topic: Your True Identity In Christ
Text: Matthew 5:14-16
14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Key Verse: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14).
Message
Light is an essential component of human life; and as we all know, without light our eyes cannot function as expected. Light dispels darkness and reveals hidden things in dark places through its illumination. From the foundation of creation, God knew the implication of darkness and He created light by His declarative power saying: “… let there be light: and there was light.” Believers are likened to light in the scriptures because light dispels darkness. This implies that true believers are to come out of darkness of sin and satanic practices.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ is the Light of the world and His followers cannot walk in darkness because His light radiates through them. If you are not yet born-again, His light cannot shine through you because sin will block it. Therefore, your true identity is the light of God in you empowering you to live righteously. If you are living in sin or darkness, come to Christ to receive light by repenting and accepting Him as Lord and Saviour.
Quote: Come to Christ to receive light
Challenge: Beam the light of Christ to the world.
Prayer for today: Lord, let Your light shine through me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
