DCLM Sincere Milk 22 February 2026 — The Butler’s Dream
DCLM Sincere Milk 22 February 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Butler’s Dream
Topic: The Butler’s Dream
Text: Genesis 40: 5-14
5And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
7And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
8And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
12And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
Key Verse: “And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;” Genesis 40:9
Message
God works in mysterious ways. The butler thought his dream was just about him. But God was in His divine wisdom, preparing the way to get Joseph out of prison. The dream was to link Joseph to Pharaoh. Even Joseph did not know that this dream was in preparation for his glory and the subsequent fulfillment of God’s covenant with Abraham, His friend. Joseph’s and the butler’s ignorance did not stop God’ purpose. Joseph thought the butler, on his own, would be the one to help him. The butler forgot him because it was not in his power to help. How often do we go crying and asking help from people who may never help us until the Lord will eventually send help to us. The butler remembered Joseph immediately it was time for God’s plan and purpose to be fulfilled. We can never be forgotten when it is time for God to bless us. The butler’s and Pharaoh’s dreams were given to fulfill the dreams God gave to Joseph. Joseph’s dreams were God’s path to fulfilling His promise to Abraham and for bringing Jesus, our Saviour, into the world for our salvation. The ways of God are past finding out. (Romans 11:33).

Prayer for today: Lord, I may not understand the way You work, but teach me to remain holy and faithful to You always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
