DCLM Higher Everyday 9 March 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Lost Opportunity

Topic: The Lost Opportunity

Text: Ecclesiastes 9: 10-11

10Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Key Verse: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goeth” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

Message

Life’s experience has shown that those who fulfil destiny are those who hunt for opportunities.  They do not sit down idly waiting for opportunities to come their way. They are proactive and inquisitive about what they can do to change things in their lives to achieve desirable goals. They are people of passion who put in their best in any task assigned to them.

Our text focuses on maximising opportunities to achieve our desired destiny. Many youths of today are not taking advantage of the opportunities they have to turn things around in their spiritual and academic lives. Beloved, are you a student or in a vocation? What is your attitude towards your studies or work? If you are a born-again Christian, what is your attitude towards evangelising your friends in school? There are regrets and agonies in the hearts of those with unfulfilled mandates. There is an inherent endowment of God in every youth to help him or her to attain great heights to the glory of God. God expects you to excel in your studies and also in doing exploits for Him.

Quote: God expects you to excel

Challenge: Take advantage of gifts and talents.

Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to create and promptly use opportunities for progress. Amen.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
