DCLM Higher Everyday 10 March 2026 — The Merciful Messiah
DCLM Higher Everyday 10 March 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Merciful Messiah
Topic: The Merciful Messiah
Text: Luke 18:10-14
10Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Key Verse: “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
Message
God’s mercy is fresh and new every morning. There is nothing that can make man just before God but mercy. Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, is always moved with compassion when He sees the pitiable situations of sinful youths. It is compassion that brought Him into the world to die for our sins. He never rejects anyone who cries for mercy.

Our text talks about two individuals who came to the temple to pray – a Pharisee and a Publican. “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself…” His prayer didn’t ascend to God because it was full of a holier-than-thou and self-righteous attitude. This led to his condemnation. On the other hand, the Publican did not seek to justify himself but simply pleaded for mercy, acknowledging his sins. For this reason, He went home justified. The Saviour is still willing to show mercy to the repentant today. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). Have you received mercy from the messiah?
Quote: He went home justified
Challenge: Humble yourself to receive God’s mercy.
Prayer for today: Oh God, be merciful unto me and save me by Your grace.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
