DCLM Higher Everyday 11 April 2026 — Flee From Idol

DCLM Higher Everyday  11 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Flee From Idol

Topic: Flee From Idol

Bible Reading: 1 John 5:18-21 (KJV)

18We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

MEMORY VERSE: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen” (1 John 5:21).

Message

The very mystery of human existence demands a center of worship as a necessity. As a result of a search for an object of worship, man, out of ignorance or hardness of the heart yields himself to idol worship. The case is even worse nowadays with modern-day idolatry among young people. Lamenting on this modern idolatry, D. L. Moody said, “You don’t have to go to heathen lands today to find false gods. America is full of them. Whatever you love more than God is your idol.”

Friend, anything you value more than God is idolatry. Many youths have idolized football to a point that they can miss fellowship because of matches. Others idolize ungodly celebrities to a point that they have lost their Christian conviction about nudity and immorality. Idol worshipping will damn a soul in hell. No wonder Apostle John admonishes, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (1 John 5:21). You can keep yourself from idols by turning your faith from it to Jesus and making Him the object of worship after a heartfelt repentance of every sin.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, keep me from idols in Jesus’ name. Amen.

CHALLENGE

Idol worshipping can damn your soul in hell.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
