DCLM Sincere Milk 11 April 2026 — Effect Of Sin

DCLM Sincere Milk  11 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Effect Of Sin

Bible Reading: Joshua 7:7-13 (KJV)

7And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

8O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!

9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

10And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

11Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

12Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

13Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

MEMORY VERSE: “And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!” Joshua 7:12

Message

There was a well in a certain village which was the only source of water for the entire community. One day a stray dog fell into the well and drowned without anybody knowing it. After some days the water became polluted and undrinkable. Not knowing what to do, the people turned to the wise man in the village. He told them to go and draw up hundred buckets of water from the well. They did for about three to four times without solution. Frustrated and tired the people went to the wise one who, out of curiosity asked whether they have taken out the dead dog. They looked at each other and said no. The man then asked how they expect the water to be clean when the cause of the pollution is still there.

This was the situation with the children of Israel. They had conquered Jericho through God’s miraculous move. Now they went ahead to fight against a very tiny “powerless” nation called Ai. They thought it was needless to involve God in it. They could just wipe out that country without much stress. Alas, Israel was put to shame before Ai. Why? there was sin in their camp and they did not know. Joshua and the people were then commanded to remove the source of the defeat – sin. When the sinner with the accursed things were removed, Israel experienced a resounding victory.

Do not hide your sin. It can bring problem to your life, family, church and even the community. Repent, ask for mercy and pardon from God. He will forgive you and cleanse your life with His blood.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, purge me and my family from all sin.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
