DCLM Sincere Milk 31 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Power Of Praise
Topic: The Power Of Praise
Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:18-24 (KJV)
18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
22And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
KEY VERSE: “And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.” 2 Chronicles 20:22
Message
There is power in praise! The people of God were having a serious challenge according to our Bible passage. King Jehoshaphat had to lead the people to cry unto God. In response to their prayers, the king received the word / command of God from Prophet Jahaziel. The king was to raise a choir of singers among the children of Israel who were facing an attack from their enemies, the children of Ammon, Moab and mount Seir. King Jehoshaphat promptly did this instead of being afraid of the enemies. Do not be afraid of your enemies, God has given you the weapons to fight and defeat them. Apart from prayer of faith, praise is another powerful weapon to use against the enemy like king Jehoshaphat did. God also told Joshua, the leader of the children of Israel to merely raise men to blow the trumpet in praise to Him and march round the walls of Jericho and the city would fall. He did and the walls of Jericho fell down flat before Israel. They got the victory over their enemies.
Deborah a female judge in Israel with Barak the son of Ahinoam praised the Lord for defeating the enemies of Israel. In all these instances, the Israelites obeyed God through the voice of their leaders. Obedience to God is important in order to win in the battles of life. Praise God in whatever situation you find yourself and victory will be yours.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
God, please give me a heart of praise in every situation I find myself.

Joshua 6:1-5
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
