KEY VERSE: “Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?” Micah 6:6
Message
All over the world respect and honour are given to kings and rulers. In some cultures, younger ones are expected to bow or kneel to greet their elders. Every culture has a way of recognizing and honouring monarchs (king or queen). Some will line up the routes to wave hands to their queen and king as she or he passed by as a mark of honour. The subjects are expected to bow before their rulers. Bowing is an act of worship, respect, thanksgiving, appreciation and honour.
If humans can bow or honour other humans why then should humans find it difficult to bow and worship their Creator and Life-giver? Some children do not seem to understand the reason why they come to the presence of the Lord. We come to bow and worship the Lord. Many of the children of Israel might have thought it was the fatness of their burnt offerings and not their doings that God was looking for in worship. The Prophet tells the children of Israel what the Lord requires in worship: (i) do justly, (ii) love mercy and (iii) walk humbly with your God.
As you come to worship the Lord, bring your offering with you. But the Lord will not accept your praise and worship because of your offering, but because of your obedience to His Word and kindness to others around you.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
I bow before Your holy presence and worship You, Oh King of glory; for You are worthy of my praise.
FURTHER READING
Micah 6:6-8
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
