DCLM Higher Everyday  8 July 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Profitable Engagement For Youths

Topic: Profitable Engagement For Youths

Bible Reading: Acts 2:41-47 (KJV)

41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

KEY VERSE: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).

Message

In the early Church, Christian youths were actively engaged in spiritual and secular endeavours. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. Their commitment led to spiritual growth, unity, and divine favour, making their engagement both profitable and impactful. History records that David Livingstone, a young Christian missionary and explorer, spent his early years in profitable engagement. He learned Latin, theology, and medicine; and these skills later helped him in his missionary work in Africa. His dedication to God’s work and self-improvement made him a vessel of great impact.

Like David Livingstone, Christian youths today must resist the temptation of idleness and meaningless entertainment. Instead, they should invest time in studying God’s word. Youths are enjoined to pursue academic excellence. They are also enjoined to acquire computer and digital skills to be globally competent enough to fit into the 21st century digitalization world. God expects every youth to be profitably engaged, making their lives count for His glory. Remember that wise and profitable youths are friends of Jesus who obey Him and are directed by Him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, help me to engage in profitable activities to Your glory.

CHALLENGE

Avoid idleness – invest your time wisely.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
