DCLM Sincere Milk 3 November 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Uzziah, From Nobody To Somebody
Topic: Uzziah, From Nobody To Somebody
Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 26:1-5,15 (KJV)
1Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
3Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
5And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
15And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
KEY VERSE: “And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.” 2 Chronicles 26:5
Message
The story of Uzziah’s life shows how God can take a nobody from nowhere to become somebody somewhere. Uzziah was just 16 years old when he was made a king by the people of Judah. Then he started doing things that all the adults that ruled before him did not and could not do. However, he started well by first seeking God, this was the secret of his success. God helped him against the philistines and against the Arabians and other enemy nations because he sought God’s help. Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem and in the desert. He dug many wells to supply water to the people and for agriculture. He had a strong army of warriors and invented engines through his scientists. The secret of all these great successes attained by Uzziah was because he sought the Lord early in life.
A child in the children church was once asked by a teacher “when will you give your life to Jesus and be born again”? The boy responded “when I grow up like Brother Timothy.” This is the mistake many children make today. They plan to give their lives to Christ after they have achieved all their great dreams of becoming a doctor, a lawyer, a banker or even a governor. They fail to realize that it is God that can make someone to become great in life. Joshua 1:8 tells us the secret of good success. God has a great plan for your life. Seek Him early by giving your life to Jesus Christ and be born again. God will help you and make you somebody to be reckoned with in life.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Oh Lord, help me and make me to be whom You want me to be for the glory of your name.
FURTHER READING
Psalm 1:1-3
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
