TOPIC: From Death To Life (DCLM Daily Manna 5 November 2021)
📜 TEXT:JOHN 5:17-24📜
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
🔑📖KEY VERSE: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”
(JOHN 5:24).
MESSAGE:
At the time Apostle Paul visited Athens in his third missionary journey between AD 54 and 58, he met a city buried in idolatry and a deluge of the teachings of ancient philosophers like Epicurus and Zeno. Citizens of this Greek metropolis spent their days and nights pursuing superstitious doctrines and seeking “to tell, or to hear some new thing” (Acts 17:21). That “new thing” came when Paul preached what the Athenians had never heard: Jesus and His power to make the dead live again.

The world has not recorded a more novel phenomenon than the birth of Jesus, His death, resurrection, ascension and His expected return. His teachings have influenced and transformed the course of the world events more than all the combined revolutions man has been through. No human being spoke more authoritatively and believably: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
The scientists and philosophers of old looked for the elixir of life that would either eliminate death or prolong life. Others like the Epicureans and Stoics put forth unsustainable teachings about how to improve the human condition through learning. In modern times, materialism and carnal pleasures are being hoisted as the key needs of man. All these leave man with a deadly cocktail from which the wise should flee.
Christians should be like Paul. We should not be intimidated by the teachings of the world. We should give the world the good news of the One who has the power to raise the dead back to life. He touched lives while here on earth and He still does the same for those who accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Jesus’ power reaches beyond today; it stretches into eternity.
✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your joy now and hereafter is guaranteed when you have Jesus.

MEDITATION
QUESTIONS ABOUT ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
1. Can you actually be sure of your salvation in this present world?
Many, especially those whose salvation are not dramatic, often battle with assurance of salvation or forgiveness of sins. This is common to those born in living churches and raised up to be morally sound.
a. Assurance is not by assumption. It is a real experience: “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God”, Romans 8:16.
b. The Apostles wrote so that “ye may know that ye have eternal life”, I John 5:13.
c. A true child of God will have “the witness in himself” I John 5:10.
d. Past saints, both old and contemporary, were(are) sure of their salvation without any shadow of doubt, 2 Timothy 4:8.
2. What is the role of Faith in securing assurance of salvation
It is all by faith.
The text shows us the way.
a. Never rely on your feelings for salvation
b. Don’t depend on your good efforts to please God. They will not give assurance
c. Dont rely on human or unknown voices, either complimentary or condemnatory. None has access to the Book of life except the Holy Spirit 👌
d. What you are lacking is faith in Christ and His word 👌
i. In John 5:24, Jesus said it with all certainty that if you take pain to listen and hear His word of salvation; and you belief the gospel, then two things have automatically happened in your life whether you feel it or not What are they? 🤔
The implication is that what your feeling is saying cannot be relied upon. You have already passed to life. Also, any condemnation coming to your mind is not from God but from other sources. You determine who to believe: What Jesus said or other voices 🤷♂️
ii. John 3:36 said the same thing. Do you believe those words of Jesus? Is it an active belief that moved you to take actions in line with His demands on repentance? Then you have everlasting life🤷♂️ Any voice telling you that you don’t have it is not from God.
iii. I John 5:10 also reiterate that faith in Christ will be rewarded with the assurance or inner witness of salvation. So stand on what Jesus said77 and you are safe👍
iv. What do you undertand by Ephesians 2:8,9?
e. Anytime that those thoughts of condemnation start harassing your mind, confess and express your faith in those words of Jesus and your heart will be reassured of salvation. Of you do that consistently, a time comes that those doubts will permanently disappear👌
f. When that faith is manifested, other supernatural experiences will follow. Read Romans 10:9,10,17.
g. So, what God is looking for is primarily your faith in Christ and His words evidenced by the simple actions you put forth in response to His word👌
h. Read Hebrews 8:12 and ask yourself if you believe it. Believe His word ✅
PRAYER POINTS
1. If you are saved, praise God for the assurance of salvation due to Jesus’ merit🙏
2. If not sure, confess and put your confidence in what Jesus said and ask for assurance of salvation🙏
3. Ask God to teach you to be living and walking by faith🙏
4. Pray for the Spirit’s assistance for all converts and those born in the church to have this assurance and be growing in the grace of God🙏
HYMN
MY FAITH HAS FOUND A RESTING PLACE
1. My faith has found a resting place,
from guilt my soul is freed;
I trust the ever-living One,
his wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
it is enough that Jesus died,
and that he died for me.
2. Enough for me that Jesus saves,
this ends my fear and doubt;
a sinful soul, I come to him,
he’ll never cast me out. Refrain
3. My heart is leaning on the Word,
the written Word of God,
salvation by my Savior’s name,
salvation thro’ his blood. Refrain
4. My great Physician heals the sick,
the lost he came to save;
for me his precious blood he shed,
for me his life he gave.
Refrain

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
