DCLM Daily Manna 22 November 2021 — Will You Listen?
DCLM Daily Manna 22 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Will You Listen?
TOPIC: WILL YOU LISTEN?
TEXT: Jeremiah 6:9-17
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
KEY VERSE:
“To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.” – (Jeremiah 6:10)
MESSAGE:
Every advertisement on cigarette always ends with the warning note: “Smokers are liable to die young”. Despite this, millions of people still ignore the caution and move on with their smoking habit. Since they choose to damn the warnings, the consequences of their actions eventually damn them.
The prophet Jeremiah was disturbed by the deliberate decisions of the people of Judah not to pay attention to the warnings from God. He had been sending them warnings regarding the impending judgment to come upon them because of their sinful acts and atrocities. Since they chose not to listen to the warnings from God but preferred the flatteries and lies of their false prophets and deceivers, there was no way they would escape God’s judgment.
It is equally disturbing that we have so many people in the church with this stubborn and very adamant spirit like the people in Jeremiah’s day. In spite of the clear and straight forward teachings of the word of God condemning all forms of ungodly lifestyles, we still find them holding on to these lifestyles. They seem to have deliberately tuned their minds off the words of God. They ignore the old path of righteousness and holiness set up by God and prefer all forms of perversion, ungodliness and worldly lifestyle. They care less about the judgment of God or consider it as false. Unfortunately, there are so many preachers and ministers by their messages and lifestyles promote these evil practices.
We must note that people’s refusal to believe and accept the word of God does not change its authenticity. It will not also avert or stop the judgment from coming. If you stubbornly refuse to accept the word of God and pattern your life after His standard, you will be sure to face His judgment. To escape it, listen and take heed today!
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Don’t reject warnings meant for your good.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Ezekiel 39-42
MEDITATION
THE “OLD FASHIONED WAY ”
1.The characteristics of “the old paths”?
a. The “old paths” are the paths where the fathers of faith trod in their pilgrimage on earth, v16.
b. It is the good godly way that brings rest, void of earthly worry, cares and anxiety and ambitions, to the soul, v16.
c. It is the path that sin is called sin without calling it a modernised name to make it less sinful and permissive, v14.
d. It is the path where the wrath and judgement on sin is made known without pity or partiality, v14
e. It is the path of old fashioned conviction for sin that leads to genuine repentance, v15.
f. It is the path that is free from all forms of covetousness, materialism, lusts and falsehood, v13.
g. It is a life that is well pleasing to God with no fear of condemnation or judgement, v11,12. “Against such, there is no law” that can condemn them because they are obeying all, Galatians 5:23.
h. It is the path of faith because “without faith it is impossible to please God”, Hebrews 11:6.
i. It is the product of a circumcised ear and heart in which listening and obeying His words are delightful to the soul, v10.
j. It is the narrow way that leads to heaven, Matthew 7:13,14.
k. Of course, it is the way of the cross, consecration and self crucifixion.
l. It was practiced by the early church as recorded in the Acts of Apostles.
Note There is a difference between using modern technology to advance the old time faith and modernising the old time faith to suit the modern carnal man👌
2. Getting to travel the old paths
a. Ask for the old paths, v16. Don’t be satisfied with the modernised, motivational messages modelled for multitudes who are mindless of the Master’s mission. Consciously seek for it.
b. “See the old ways”, v16.
You can only see or discern the old ways when you search the scriptures and allow the Holy Spirit to give you the raw interpretations of the written word. Ask for your eyes to be opened by the Lord.
c. “Stand in the old ways” v16. Make up your mind to stay, support, share and sacrifice for the old ways.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Pray that God will give you love and passion for the old time faith🙏
2. Ask for grace and commitment to stay, stand and contend for the old time faith🙏
3. Plead that the Church will not depart from or forsake the old path faith🙏
4. Pray that the current Christ’s ministers that have departed from the old time faith will receive mercy to trace their way back🙏
HYMN
THE OLD FASHIONED MEETING
1. Oh, how well I remember in the old-fashioned days,
When some old-fashioned people had some old-fashioned ways;
In the old-fashioned meetings as they tarried there,
In the old-fashioned manner, how God answered their pray’r.
Chorus:
‘Twas an old-fashioned meeting, in an old-fashioned place,
Where some old-fashioned people had some old-fashioned grace:
As an old-fashioned sinner I began to pray,
And God heard me, and saved me in the old-fashioned way.
2, There was singing, much singing, of those old-fashioned airs!
There was power, such power in those old-fashioned pray’rs,
An old-fashioned conviction made the sinner pray,
And the Lord heard and saved Him, in the old-fashioned way.
Chorus
3 . Well, they say it is better, “Things have changed, don’t you know,”
And the people in gen’ral, seem to think it is so;
And they call me old-fashioned when I dare to say,
That I like it far better in the old-fashioned way.
Chorus
4. If the Lord never changes, as the fashions of men,
If He’s always the same, why, He is old-fashioned, then!
As an old-fashioned sinner saved thro’ old-time grace,
Oh, I’m sure He will take me to an old-fashioned place. Chorus

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
